Sakura Wood Soup Spatula
The Sakura Wood Soup Spatula is designed for reaching deep pots and stirring generous portions with ease. Its longer handle provides comfortable reach when cooking soups, stews, or larger batches.
Crafted by Miyajima Kougei Seisakujo, a woodworking workshop founded in 1890 on Miyajima Island in Hiroshima, each piece is shaped from Japanese yamazakura (mountain cherry wood), valued for its strength, smooth grain, and beautiful aging over time.
Known in Japan as a “Soup Hera”, this style of spatula is traditionally used for stirring soups and cooking in deeper pots. The extended shape allows cooks to reach the bottom of the pot while maintaining control and comfort.
Designed for Deep Pots and Generous Cooking
The longer handle provides extra reach and control when cooking in deeper cookware such as soup pots, Dutch ovens, and large sauté pans. It allows you to stir thoroughly without getting too close to heat or steam.
The Character of Sakura Wood
Japanese yamazakura has a distinctive feel—smooth and gentle to the touch while remaining firm and resilient. Over time the wood deepens in color and develops a richer tone through regular use, giving each tool its own natural character.
Comfortable for Everyday Use
Despite its longer shape, the spatula remains lightweight and balanced in the hand. It works beautifully for stirring soups, sautéing vegetables, and mixing ingredients while cooking.
